I have worked with slate for years.
Slate is a natural material that was laid down about 500 million years ago, it is essentially mud that has first been compressed and compacted, and then squeezed and heated by the Earth’s forces creating a tough layered stone finish. I use reclaimed slate that has been weathered on Cornish cottages for 100's of years.
