- The town of Great Torrington is situated
on a cliff top, over looking the river Torridge. The view from the ramparts of the former
castle is wonderful, the landscape to the south, is laid out in a patchwork of hedges and fields to the hills beyond.

- The town saw action in the civil war the history of which is well represented
in the town, in later years the wealth of the town was based on wool and
glove manufacturing.

- Visitors to the town should take the time to visit
the cliff walk below the castle walls affording a stunning view of the valley
below. The main car park gives easy access to both the town and
castle cliff walk.
