Sir David Frost to unveil new slab at Wells Pub - 6pm, Friday 22nd May
Sir David will be joined at The Slab House Inn by two wenches and
medieval folk musicians. There will also be a hog roast. All members of
the public are invited to come along.
The slab is an exact replica of the original slab which occupied the
site of The Slab House Inn during the time of the Black Death in
1348-1350, when a three-mile quarantine limit was imposed around Wells.
Cautious farmers and traders would leave food, drink and other produce
on the large
slab for locals to come and collect. The slab was used again during the
plague of 1598-1600.
The Slab House Inn is owned by BBC Ready, Steady Cook star Brian Turner
and Stuart Le Gassick.
