- Bigbury-on
Sea, a small resort with excellent, large, beaches in a secluded position, very busy in summer, hence the large
car park area.
Here you will find Burgh Island off the South Devon Coast most of which is open to the public is well worth a visit but you must keep an eye on the tides as at low tide you may walk over the sands to the
island, at high tide the sand is covered by several feet of water with dangerous currents.
-
- A large wheeled tractor
will take you over for a small charge, this is handy as the tide
comes in quite quickly and without the tractor you might have to
spend extra time in the quaint old worlde pub "The Pilchard
Inn".
The island also has a hotel and an inn, the hotel was constructed in the art deco style and was
visited by famous celebrities of the 20s and 30s.
-
- Built in 1929 by the millionaire Archibald Nettlefold the hotel was visited by Agatha Christie, who used the setting in two of her books.
