East Budleigh a pretty village with thatched cottages climbing a steep hill.

A footbridge crosses a brook to houses lower down. The church has an interesting collection of carved bench ends and a memorial to the Raleigh family. 

 

Walter Raleigh (1555-1618) was born   1 mile to the west at Hayes Barton in a beautiful Tudor building which is now a farm house.

Angling

Sea fishing at Seaton and Sidmouth. Boats can be hired from the beach at Sidmouth and Beer. The best time for fishing at Seaton is between Sept and Nov for bass. Sidmouth Bay is best in spring and summer. Trout fishing on stretches of the Rivers Exe, Otter and Sid. Coarse fing on the Exeter Canal.
