- Axminster is a busy
country town with a long history between Honiton and Dorchester. Set originally
by the
intersection of two Roman roads, the Foss Way and Icknield Street -
although archaeological remains from the neighbourhood suggest an
even earlier foundation. Axminster is
famous for its carpets started by a local weaver, Thomas
Whitty. A
drive south along pleasant Devon country roads will bring you to
Axmouth and Seaton.

Seaton and Sidmouth. Boats can be hired from the beach at Sidmouth
and Beer. The best time for fishing at Seaton is between Sept and
Nov for bass. Sidmouth Bay is best in spring and summer. Trout
fishing on stretches of the Rivers Exe, Otter and Sid. Coarse fing
on the Exeter Canal.
