Dawlish is originally a small fishing village set back from the sea to protect it from
raiders and pirates. During the Victorian period it became a genteel watering
hole and was developed into the resort of today.
Access to the town was
improved by the arrival of the railway between the town and the sea. Examples
of Brunel's designs are still evident today.
