George Cross Island Commorative Event
West Branch of the George Cross Island Association are holding an event to
commemorate the award of the George Cross to Malta. The event will remember the
bravery and courage shown by the people of Malta, the men and women who defended
the Island during the Siege of Malta during 1940 to 1943 and those who served on
the Pedestal Convoy which helped save the Island from starvation by bringing in
essential supplies of food, medicines and fuel. The event will take place, at
the Royal British Legion Club, Ferndown Dorset on Thursday 15th March starting
at 10.30am. The Mayor of Ferndown is attending the event as an honoured guest;
along with the National Chairman of the GCIA and West branch Committee members.
There is a full programme of remembrances, presentations, raffle and including a
2 course lunch for just £12.75 (Dress Code: Smart/Casual, Medals may be worn)
Any other members of the services, past and present, and indeed any local people
will be warmly welcomed, especially any people living in the area who are
Maltese or have a connection with Malta.

BOOK SALE. The Friends of Upton Country Park are holding their Annual
Book Sale in The House on Good Friday, 29th March, between 10.00am and 4.30pm.
This will be our ninth annual Book Sale. Last year was our most successful to
date, raising in excess of £1200 for financing projects in Upton House and Park.
This year we will have a large quantity of books for sale, with a selection of
good quality paperback and hardback books at modest prices for both adults and
children. These will be laid out for sale in the ground floor rooms of the
House. All the books have been generously donated to us, and all the proceeds
from this fund raising event will go towards projects and maintenance within the
House and Park. Car Parking and Admission to The House is free and refreshments
will be available from the nearby ‘Friends’ Kiosk or the Tearooms in The Park.

Something Borrowed Magazine are proud to host The Dorset Wedding Festival. This
is the first event of its kind in the area and is following on from the success
of The Dorset Vintage Wedding Fair. The event will be held in marquees at Holton
Lee, Holton Heath, Poole, Dorset on Sunday 7th April 2013, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.
There will be various marquees, catering for everyone, including; Vintage,
Groom-to-be (like a crèche but for men!), Bride-to-be, Children, DIY, Food &
drink
This is a must for anyone planning their wedding and the one event where the men
will have something to do. As well as the usual exhibition, there will be live
music from bands and singers you can hire for your big day and an area where you
can purchase snacks or lunch. Even the kids will be entertained in the
children’s marquee and they won’t cost you a penny as under 16s get in free!

Pitch on the Pitch 2013 is a West Country festival extravaganza that for one day
only will give you the chance to drink some scrumpy, have a good ol’ knees up
and then crash out in your tent on the Weymouth FC pitch! Bank Holiday Sunday
26th May 2013. Campers can arrive to pitch their tents from 11am with music
starting at 1pm and continuing until 11pm. Anyone over 16! Alcohol will only be
sold to over 18s. Anyone who appears under the age of 25 will be asked for proof
of ID to purchase alcohol. We have 2 headline acts now confirmed! The Dolmen and
the one and only
Skimmity Hitchers! Bands will play from 1pm – 11pm on a stage in the stadium, so
you can boogie on down on the pitch! Also playing are: Wob and Tia Roos
Camping is free so why not make a night of it?! Arrive from 11am to get your
pitch on the pitch! First come, first serve! All monies raised will be donated
to Weymouth FC to help with funding for everything from pitch maintenance to

On Sunday 9th June more than 20 gardens in Sway will be open to the public for
the bi-ennial Sway Open Gardens Event. These will not only be villager’s
own gardens, but will also include the grounds of St Lukes Church Gardens, St
Luke’s School, Sway Manor Hotel, Shelborne Senior Living, the Sway allotments
and Sway Station. We are pleased to announce that Miss Pippa Greenwood (from
Gardeners’ World, Gardeners’ Question Time and other similar programmes) will be
our Guest for the day. During the day Pippa will give three talks and there will
be the opportunity for ticket holders to put their questions to her on various
gardening topics. So if you have a particular gardening problem then this is
your opportunity to get a solution. There will be a fantastic Plant Stall, a
raffle with fabulous prizes, and light lunches and afternoon teas will be
served. There is also a complimentary minibus that will travel the route round
the gardens, with drop-off and pick-up points along the way. Sway Village is
easily accessible by road and rail.
Tickets will be available in advance at £5 per person or £6 on the day. Proceeds
from the Open Gardens will go to the Oakhaven Hospice and local clubs, societies
and other beneficiaries.

converted M548 can hold 16 people at a time - so the whole family can jump on
board together!

action and fireworks as The Tank Museum hosts the Bovington Garrison Display in
association with Armoured Trials and Development Unit.

The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, BH20 6JG
The Tank Museum is again hosting the official remembrance service on behalf of
the Bovington Garrison. This service will be attended by serving soldiers,
veterans and their families, but visitors are also very welcome to join in the
service which commences at 10.30. Visitors are asked to assemble by 10.15.
This well attended service will take place in The Tamiya Hall. Following this, a
wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Royal Armoured Corps Memorial
outside the Museum. All visitors will be asked to respect the 2 minutes silence
that occurs at 11.00.

Children can meet Father Christmas in his North Pole grotto at The Toy Barn in
Sherborne from Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th December from 11am - 3pm each day.
Father Christmas is only at The Toy Barn for 4 days in his busy schedule.
Booking in advance is advisable to avoid disappointment. Tickets are £5 per
child, which includes a present. Adult entry is free.
