In case you haven’t heard already, Chettle Fete will be held this year on
Saturday 16th of June, from 1pm. The sun will of course be shining, the
strawberries will be plump and the cream from Chettle’s very own dairy will have
been beaten into submission! We’re very excited! There are a few silly new
additions to our extensive list of attractions so be prepared… You might have
noticed too Chettle’s gawn Ciderspace! We hope you find our new website useful
when you’re face down in a field after too much of Rolly’s homebrew… Last year
we raised over £6,000 which went to a selection of very worthy causes: Dorset &
Somerset Air Ambulance, Weldmar Hospice and the Dandelion Trust. This year
profits go to Marie Curie Trust, once again to Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance
and Diverse Abilities Plus which provides better opportunities and fun
activities for children with physical and learning disabilities.

SHOW OFF AT DORSET’S MOTORING PAGEANT – BACK FOR A SECOND YEAR!
Why own a classic sports car or bike? Well one of the main reasons is to enjoy
it on a nice summer’s day, but also to SHOW OFF! Let’s be honest the main reason
to take your pride and joy (be it car, bike, muscle car etc), out and about is
to let other people look upon it with awe and fascination.
If you are a vehicle owner and like to show off make sure you have the 24th June
in your diary when Gillingham & Shaftesbury Motoring Pageant roars into Turnpike
Showground, Motcombe for its 2nd year of fuel filled celebrations. Organised by
well respected organisers Jason Lunn and Helen Morton the show was incredibly
well supported for its first year last year and expects to double in size for
year two!
With competitions for the best club stands and display vehicles it’s a day not
be missed and hundreds of vehicles will be on display and parading in the main
ring. In addition the show features a trade village and auto jumble featuring
parts and services for your car or bike, model show, the Ken Fox Wall of Death
(as seen on the BBC) and of course bikes and cars from pre war to the present
day. Last year’s show had over 3000 visitors and 400+ vehicles on show!
The quality of vehicles on show was incredible in 2011 and with rave reviews and
more and more enquiries the show is certain to be even more impressive in 2012.
If you want to come and look at these incredible vehicles (you might be
interested in owning your own) then why not come down to the show and wander
around? You can bet there’ll be a few for sale and the clubs and owners will
offer advice about how best to buy your classic. In addition we have a fun fair
and trade area for families to wander and enjoy the day.
Staged at the superb and beautiful Turnpike Showground near Shaftesbury this new
show on the classics calendar provides the South West with a great and valuable
day out for classic enthusiasts and families alike. For day tickets call 0844
854 1353.

Also, money raised will go toward the hospices Naomi House and Jack’s Place who
provide care and to young adults and children who have conditions that mean they
are unlikely to live to become adults. For an entry fee of £10 for adults and £5
for children (plus sponsorship) the walk will take participants through the
Japanese Gardens and the grounds of the mansion house – leading to the depths of
the forest through woodlands and fields. Alternatively, a 2.5km route through
the gardens will be available – ideal for disabled participants and families
with young children. Each entry fee will include admission to the grounds for
the day.
Have a wonderful day out at Kingston Lacy and help support some brilliant local
charities at the same time!
Sponsorship: As this is a sponsored event we kindly ask each adult to raise £50
and children £20.

7,000 members across the country, there will be a range of these vehicles on
display in the Museum’s grounds primarily from Dorset based members. They will
be joined by a range of militaria, model and military book stalls along with a
range of other traders. With a host of activities for all the family taking
place inside the Museum, the Wartime Military Vehicle Show is a great excuse to

Evening Lecture: Tom Chadwick, Artist and Soldier 19.30pm – 22.00pm £10
per person The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset. BH20 6JG 01929 405096
To mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of El Alamein, author Julian Frances
is launching his new title on the life and art of Captain Tom Chadwick MC.
Chadwick, who served in the 3rd Hussars, kept a beautifully illustrated diary
during his service, which is made more poignant as it recorded the death of his
brother (also of the 3rd Hussars) just two days before his own death during the
Battle of El Alamein on this date seventy years ago. In this lecture, Francis
shares the artwork and memories Chadwick recorded in his moving diaries.

Evening Lecture: Monte Cassino – Ten Armies in Hell 19.30pm – 22.00pm The
Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset. BH20 6JG. 01929 405096 £10 per person
Peter Caddick-Adams new book Monte Cassino: Ten Armies in Hell examines the
bloodiest contest of the Italian campaign. The five month battle, which drew in
a multitude of participating armies, was characterised by deadlock in
inhospitable mountainous terrain that could only be broken by boots on the
ground, rather than sweeping manoeuvres by tanks and aircraft. Monte Cassino was
also marked by the destruction of its world famous Abbey: in retrospect,
considered an unjustifiable act of cultural vandalism by the Allies. In this
lecture, Dr Caddick-Adams discusses the battle and draws parallels to modern
conflict.
