The Savills Countryside Alliance Point to Point. Badbury Rings, near
Wimborne, Dorset. Sunday 23 February 2014
An amazing 201 runners are confirmed for The Savills Countryside Alliance Point
to Point this Sunday, 23rd February, at Badbury Rings, near Wimborne, Dorset,
which is double the number of entries received in 2013. The entries include many
top class horses, for example, Sir Alex Ferguson’s What a Friend, who is entered
in the first race, ran in the 2011 and 2013 Grand Nationals and 2011 and 2012
Gold Cups (2011 came 4th behind Long Run). Byerley Bear, who is entered in the
Aga ladies race, is the leading horse to be running, with four wins already this
season.
In addition to the races, the event’s range of countryside and children’s
activities, country crafts, local food stalls, a Parade of Hounds, Countryside
Silent Auction and a large shopping village, is expected to draw the crowds.
Gates and Shopping Village open at 9am, followed by Terrier Racing at 10am and
the Hound Parade at 12.30pm. The first race is at 12 noon. Entry costs £20 per
car and picnics are welcome.
For those who enjoy the VIP treatment, special Patrons Packages are available
including premier parking, 2 entry tickets, use of Patrons tent with food and
refreshments all day and a champagne reception before racing. The Packages are
just £55 and can be purchased by calling 01752 830430.
Countryside Alliance Chief Exec Barney White-Spunner commented "We are
absolutely delighted by the number and quality of entries for this year’s Point
to Point, which have exceeded expectations. Our free draining course means the
going is good. Visitors are in for a thrilling day of racing and entertainment
and we look forward to welcoming everyone."
The event’s chosen charity for 2014 is the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, which
offers care for patients with cancer and other progressive conditions requiring
specialist help across south and west Dorset either in their own homes or as in
patients at Joseph Weld Hospice.

We are adding an exciting twist to our Annual Fun Run for the second time –
runners can opt for the ‘Blindfold Challenge’! The challenge is to run one half
of the race blindfolded being guided by a team mate, and run the other half
where the roles reverse, the blindfolded runner becomes the guide.
This unique challenge highlights the difficulties of sight impairment, the trust
placed in a friend or colleague, the importance of teamwork. It will take
courage; bring people out of their comfort zone to overcome their fears. It will
be a very empowering experience and will hopefully also turn out to be very good
fun! We are also offering our standard 10k/5k run for those who aren’t ready to
undertake the blindfold challenge.
A fun, enjoyable day to raise much needed funds for Dorset Blind Association.
Join blindfolded, guiding, visually impaired and blind runners and guide dogs in
our fourth annual run. Funds raised will be used to support Dorset Blind
Association which works to provide practical help and support to people with
sight loss in Dorset. We help people to adjust to their sight loss and tackle
the isolation felt by visually impaired people. The biggest challenge we face is
funding our work and with no central government funding and less than 10% of our
funding coming from local government; the support of the local community is
crucial and essential.
“Making a difference for blind and partially sighted people”
The run takes place on Sunday 21st September
