PLYMOUTH PHILHARMONIC CHOIR’S SUMMER CONCERT
Carmina Burana: Carl Orff
From the Bavarian Highlands: Edward Elgar
For the next concert Plymouth Philharmonic Choir is joined by children from Ridgeway School Chamber Choir. Together they will perform the hugely popular and exciting Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. The programme also includes Edward Elgar’s From the Bavarian Highlands. The soloists are soprano Catherine Hamilton, tenor Leslie Baker and baritone Michael Dewis.
Conductor Christopher Fletcher is very excited about the concert and says: “Carmina Burana is hugely popular with both the choir and our audience and I can’t wait to perform it.” Of the Elgar he says the piece reminds him of a holiday photo album: “These days we take our cameras on holiday with us to capture memories of the places we visit. Elgar couldn’t do this and so, being a composer, made his holiday memories musical ones, creating a portrait of the landscape and its people with words and sounds.”
The concert takes place on 29th June at 7pm in Plymouth Guildhall.
Information as to where you can buy tickets call the booking office on 01364 72429, Advance tickets are £15; children under 16 £5. Some tickets may be available on the night (at £17) but it is advisable to book in advance.

DAREDEVILS WANTED TO ABSEIL 100FT FROM MELDON VIADUCT FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER
This September is set to be a huge month for CLIC Sargent, as the charity aims to make a larger than before impact to increase local awareness of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. To fire start their ambitions, CLIC Sargent will be hosting the Dartmoor Drop, a sponsored 100ft free-fall abseil, at Meldon Viaduct.
Join CLIC Sargent’s daring abseil and descend 100ft from Meldon Viaduct and make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer and their families.
Test your nerves and take a step off the viaduct into fresh air, down through the Okement River valley. Experience the feeling of freefall as you abseil 100ft through some of Devon’s finest countryside.
The Dartmoor Drop will see 80 brave souls descend a nail-biting 100ft from the Meldon Viaduct individually or in teams on 6th and 7th September 2014.
The abseil is open to anyone aged 16 or over and people can take part individually or in teams of 4. Each participant is required to pay a registration fee of £15 and raise a minimum of £150 sponsorship.
CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical and emotional support for children and young people with cancer, and their families, from the point of diagnosis. All proceeds from the abseil will help CLIC Sargent provide vital services, including nurses and care professionals in Devon and Cornwall, grants to help families meet extra costs and free ‘Home from Home’ accommodation close to the main children’s cancer centres.

For more information about the event, or to request a registration pack please contact Georgina Reed on 01392 314672

The Ilsington Community Market  Saturday 4 October 2014
1 – 4pm at Ilsington Village Hall  Come and join us for a Local Market with a difference!
The Ilsington Community Market is now a regular event at the Ilsington Village Hall enabling you to buy locally produced food and crafts……and all right on your doorstep!
A wide variety of stalls will be selling traditional and modern handmade crafts and gifts and locally produced meat, jams and honey. This market has a harvest theme so come along and try your hand at making your own apple juice! We will have a traditional basket apple press available for everyone to bring along their surplus apples and have them turned into juice for drinking or making into cider. Please bring along a suitable container to carry your juice home in. Pasteurised apple juice will be available on the day so everyone can have a taste. As usual the café offers a great place to catch up with friends and neighbours and enjoy delicious bacon baps, homemade cakes and hot drinks.
A community table is available if you have a few surplus vegetables, jams or plants to sell. Just bring along your priced items and we will sell them for you!  The announcement of the 2014 Community Shop Award Beneficiaries will be made at the market at 3pm.
Any profits from this market will be donated to a local village group.
If you would like to have a stall at the market, please contact Su Wheaton on 01364 661318.
See you all there!
