Theatre & Film Company, (Laura)

Open Auditions (Film & theatre) for
"Mordred"
Mordred is a feature film and theatre
production, being directed by Laura Jay, one
of our founders.
A gritty, dark tale, Mordred is an Arthurian-era
drama, heavily influenced by the earliest
legends of Mordred, who is traditionally seen
as King Arthur's arch-nemesis, and
illegitimate son. In the earlier legends,
Mordred is much more of an ambiguous
character, and not pure evil, as in modern
re-tellings, this film and theatre show tells of
the legends, from Mordred's point of view.
This drama is set in the 530s, against the
backdrop of the Saxon invasions, heavily
influenced by Celtic legends and Druidic
traditions, and the earliest tales of Arthur, and
his followers. The film will be made across
South West England, with as much use as
possible of actual Arthurian locations, and
ancient sites, in Devon and Cornwall. The
theatre shows will be performed in South
Devon (as a certainty) and we will also be
looking to perform in Cornwall, as well.
Open auditions will be held Sunday Feb 28,
2016, 4.30pm , Chestnut Community Centre,
1 - 3 Poplar Close, Brixham, TQ5 0SA
Unfortunately we will not be able to accept
video submissions. Attendance at auditions
must be in person.
Please visit our auditions page for an
overview of what to expect at our castings.
http://www.southdevonplayers.com/auditions.
html
The project runs as a profit share production,
as per the terms set out on our website.
All named cast will be fully credited on IMDB
Anyone under the age of 16, must be
accompanied at all castings, rehearsals and
filming/ performances, by a parent or legal
guardian.
Most of the ladies will be involved in fight/
battle scenes, fighting alongside the men,
especially in the Saxon raids, and at
Camlann, and mandatory combat training will
take place in Brixham at the community
centre for all relevant successful cast. If you
have a physical reason that this would not be
possible, please email us to discuss first.

As this a theatre show as well as a film,
rehearsals for the stage show will take place
on Wednesday evenings and / or Sundays
afternoons, at Chestnut Community Centre, 1

Clovelly Lentsherd, Tuesday 17 February
Lentsherd (pronounced 'Lanshard') is an old
Clovelly custom, which takes place on Shrove
Tuesday.
At dusk, *children set off down-a-long to the
harbour, dragging clattering tin cans tied to
string. The cans are then tied together and
thrown into the sea (to be later retrieved). The
aim is to rid Clovelly of all the bad things
from the previous year by chasing bad spirits
away and driving the devil into the sea before
Lent. The Rev Shirley Henderson will give a
blessing in the harbour. All participating
*children will receive a free pancake from the
Red Lion Hotel to decorate with toppings.

The South West's first show for LEGO® fans
comes to Exeter!
A one day show of LEGO creations is coming to the city
centre's Exeter Phoenix on Saturday 30 July. West Country
Brick Show promises an imaginative family day out in the
school summer holidays.
The show organisers, 'West Country Bricks' are made up of
LEGO fan builders and traders who will be proudly displaying
their impressive creations and wealth of LEGO building
expertise.
The event will feature large model replicas from history and
science fiction, including a giant Star Wars mosaic. There
is also a rare opportunity to see a vintage display of a
1960's town plan collection up close, and ask questions and
chat to the friendly team from Blocks magazine about
building, customising and collecting LEGO bricks.
Children can experiment with LEGO bricks at a dedicated play
table and will be encouraged to let their imagination go
wild and build their own models inspired by the show’s
experts.
There are chances to win LEGO play sets worth up to £100 by
entering the LEGO brick build competition. Big and little
kids at the show are invited to construct famous West
Country landmarks to enter (although space rockets and LEGO
tower blocks won't be turned away!). The competition will be
judged by the LEGO specialist builders at the end of the
show.
Independent LEGO traders will be selling exclusive LEGO play
sets, books and figures not available on the high street,
and throughout the event raffle tickets will be on sale for
the chance to win sets and figures. Winning tickets will be
drawn randomly during the show.
Exeter Cathedral, in conjunction with Bright Bricks Ltd is
in the process of building a scale model of Exeter's iconic
landmark using 300,000 LEGO bricks. The north and south
towers will stand over 1 metre high and extend nearly 4
metres wide to include the Cloisters and Bishop's Palace
once complete.
Exeter Cathedral will be at the West Country Brick Show
exhibiting a section of their build and talking to show
visitors about the project.
Money raised from this project will help preserve and
conserve Exeter Cathedral. Exeter is one of just three
Cathedrals in the country to have its own LEGO model. For a
£1 donation show visitors will be able to add a LEGO brick
to the model to help raise essential funds. It is hoped a
whole module of the Exeter Cathedral build will be
constructed by LEGO fans at the show!
Show organisers, West Country Bricks said, 'West Country
Brick Show is for LEGO fans of all ages. The LEGO universe
makes architects, sculptors and inventors of us all and we
are delighted to be bringing this great event to Exeter.
This show offers both kids and adults the opportunity to
play, learn and be inspired together. Special thanks go to
our show sponsors, Dirty Fork Media, Gizmocom, Moor Bricks,
Heaver Brothers Limited and The Brick Ladd.'
The West Country Brick is at Exeter Phoenix on Saturday 30
July. Doors open 10.30am and the show closes 4pm. Tickets:
Adults £2.50, children £1. The Exeter Phoenix café bar will
be open throughout the show serving locally sourced food and
drink, with plenty of veggie, vegan and gluten free options
too.

Lobster and Crab Feast September 04, 2016 10am to 5pm
Clovelly celebrates its famous lobsters and crabs
sustainably caught by its fishermen with a great day out for
all the family.
Choose from a variety of crab and lobster dishes cooked on
the quay or book a table at the Red Lion Harbour Restaurant
and dine on delicious lobster and seafood platters.
There'll be live folk music, chef cookery demonstrations, a
prize draw for a magnum of champagne, local food and craft
stalls, including plenty of freshly cooked lobsters and
crabs, and beer tasting. Children will be kept entertained
by street theatre, walkabout magic, balloon modelling and
event-themed craft activities provided by The National
Trust.
It's in aid of the National Lobster Hatchery, Padstow, who
will be exibiting some of their baby lobsters prior to their
release into Clovelly Bay at the end of the day. At the
heart of the NLH's work is their lobster restocking project
whereby local fishermen bring 'pregnant' female lobsters to
the hatchery so that their delicate offspring are given a
better chance in life by being raised in captivity without
predators. These young lobsters are raised to a size where
they can be released back into the sea and look after
themselves.

Clovelly Herring Festival. 10th Anniversary
10am to 4pm
Clovelly was once a major centre for herring fishing
and our annual Herring Festival is held to promote
these tasty, nutritious 'Silver Darlings' and
support carefully managed fishing as carried out by
our local fishermen.
The village once depended on the harvest of herring,
which are caught in superb condition for a short
season off its coast. Records go back over 400 years
and in 1749, there were a hundred herring boats in
the port. When fishing was good, 9000 herring could
be landed at one time. Those days of massive catches
are long gone and there remain just two herring
fishermen who still employ sustainable fishing
methods using drift nets and long lines.
Maritime historian and writer, Mike Smylie, will
return with his 'Kipperland' exhibition, which is
devoted to the history of the herring. He will also
be turning herring into delicious and
delicate-tasting kippers and bloaters in his
smokehouse.
There will also be net making, flax processing and a
curragh on show provided by 'Flaxland'.
Enjoy a wide variety of herring dishes in the quay
kitchens or at the Harbour Bar, cookery
demonstrations, live shanty and sea song singers,
stilted entertainers, other local food and craft
stalls, a photographic exhibition of Clovelly
herring fishing, a Herring Hunt, face painting,
henna tattoosand National Trust event-themed, free
craft activities.
Normal admission charges apply.
Standard admission charges include all
entertainment. 01237 431781

Clovelly Christmas Lights From 3.30pm
Christmas is a magical time at Clovelly. A local brass band
leads the procession down to the harbour, with festive
Christmas carols sung by a local choir. A hog roast, grog,
mince pies follow and Father Christmas makes a surprise
visit. At 5pm the switch is thrown and the entire village
and harbour are lit up. It’s a fantastic sight and there’s a
grand finale of fireworks to finish off. In aid of the
